Sanctuary: volo, insula, refugium, Macropus

On Bruny Island, a beautiful, spectral white wallaby briefly kept me company, which was both surprising and enchanting.  These creatures are rare and found mainly around the Adventure Bay area of South Bruny.  This bay was a first port of call for a string of European explorers, including Cook. The arcadian, elegiac tone in this painting invokes the curiosity and idealization of Australia by these early navigators and naturalists. the child signifies the impossibly innocent desire for refuge for our wildlife from today's mundane carnage.

This painting is framed in a deep, dark timber floating frame.
