Climbing high in the Grampians, in a damp, cool, Springtime, the rivers were running and the trees were putting out bright shoots and blossoms.  This oil painting tries to capture that natural stage, before the high heat of summer.

Back in the nineteenth-century the region was a gold-diggers target; but the desire that drove them cannot be consigned to history, pressure is growing from people who believe the Grampians still sit on large reserves of gold, and there are fortunes to be made.  However, its worth remembering that the psychological resource of wild nature benefits many, now and forever.
