Blue Stone Cottage Gallery and The Studio

OPEN FRIDAY-SUNDAY 10-4

And by appointment, call 0475521501

This is a combined space for creating and exhibiting artworks. Stella usually has a selection of recent works available in the studio for viewing and purchase, as detailed on this site.  The studio is spacious, and accommodating for activities like open studios and workshops. It is set on several acres of lovely gardens and bushland. It is a uniquely inspiring, relaxing and refreshing place.

Paths lead from the studio through the bush to the tree-ringed dam that is the subject of some of Stella's recent works.  A favourite spot is the old 'Walden' log cabin, which offers a great place to sit and think, watch the birds or sketch. The pretty grounds of the cottage are also a great source of repose, and in springtime they are a sea of roses. The surrounding area is semi-rural with some pretty countryside.

The property is set back on a quiet wooded road not far from the historic village of Smythesdale, with its antique shops and cafes, and a little way from Haddon. The Ballarat to Skipton Rail Trail is nearby.  Just around the corner there is the newly opened gallery of award-winning print-maker Vida Pearson and artisanal furniture-maker Fred Ross (at 21 Rill Court, www.vidapearson.com), and for plant-lovers there is the amazinf Avalon Nursery, with a café currently under construction!

Ballarat itself, a beautiful old gold-rush city, is about fifteen minutes away, and offers some wonderful cultural experiences including the Art Gallery of Ballarat and Sovereign Hill - a journey back in time. Ballarat hosts the Archibald Prize, the Biennale of Australian Art, Ballarat International Foto Biennale and White Nights.  It has a thriving art and music scene. It is about an hour and a half from Melbourne by car, and provides for a memorable day out or weekend away from the city. Daylesford is also a short drive away, with its many attractions, Stella often has consignments of her work available in the exceptionally beautiful Convent Gallery.  A visit to Blue Stone Cottage may be easily combined with a tour of these lovely places.
