The Papermill Gallery: Sea Songs Series

These artworks, painted in watercolour, with charcoal, ink or gouache, on Arches hot press papers (300gsm) respond to the the beauty, intricate patterning and textures in the natural environments of the littoral zone between land and sea. Here, sand is arrayed with seaweeds, rocks are washed with salt waves, and pools hold wonders. Sea Songs notices the visual rhythms of an intimate marine world. the artworks connect to the materiality of this environment using water and pigments in a way that allows for flow, sedimentation and layering. They sit between recognition and abstraction, interpret real places, yet let elemental processes speak for themselves - colour flowing like tide, marks settling like sand.

A selection will be available from The Papermill Gallery near Geelong from late October.
